This site is dedicated to that small band of part-time cavalrymen who served in the Bedfordshire Yeomanry from its inception in 1899, when Lord Alwyne Compton formed a Bedfordshire company of Imperial Yeomanry to serve in the Boer War, to 1920, when most of the men had been demobilised after the Great War. By then, the need for cavalry had all but disappeared and men swapped horses for howitzers.
I've been collecting and researching to the men of the Bedfordshire Yeomanry for many years. My intention was to put a history to each and every one of those men who served their country, in whatever circumstances that may have been; each of them was an individual with a tale to tell, not simply a name and number on a service record or medal index card. I've now reached a point where I've consulted about 99% of information publicly available and I've decided to try a website in an effort to take that research a stage further.
I get requests from time to time as to whether or not the Bedfordshire Yeomanry has a museum. In terms of a building that you can visit and see exhibits, it doesn't, so my website performs the function of being a virtual museum. I am trying to add to the collection as best I can and if you can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
